Many of you may have seen those interesting yellow aerosol cans that promise the magic ability to fix your flat tire easily and quickly. This may seem like it is too good to be true. The potential of a ruined road trip is gone. So what kind of witchcraft do these magic yellow cans use, and is it safe to use a spray sealer to fix a flat?
How it works
So what is hiding inside that magic yellow can? The answer is actually quite simple. These easy tire fixers combine a mixture of tire sealant and aerosol gases. The gases propel the sealant into the tire where it goes to work proving it was properly named by sealing any punctures and preventing further air from escaping. The rest of the gasses then re-inflate the tire.

The magic in these cans is very effective, but it is by no means meant to be permanent. These tire fixers are just meant to allow you to get your car to a safe place. The damaged tire should be properly fixed or replaced as soon as possible.
When you do get the tire repaired or replaced, make sure to tell whatever shop is making the repairs that an aerosol tire sealant has been used.
Are aerosol tire sealers safe to use?
Overall, aerosol tire sealers are safe to use, but there are several things that need to be kept in mind. Like many aerosol products, the contents of these cans is flammable. If there is any chance a fire might start, do not use it. The sealant can also be very acidic, and can damage your tire if it is not cleaned out promptly and properly.
All of these concerns can be outweighed by the benefits of not being stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire. Aerosol tire sealers are fine to use, so long as they are used properly and the tire is cleaned and repaired as soon as possible.
