Six Tips To Steer Clear of Speeding Tickets

vehicle pulled overLet’s just point out the obvious solution, don’t speed, but let’s also be honest, the majority of drivers maintain a speed cushion somewhere between 5-15 mph over the limit. Generally 5 mph is no big deal, but the risk of a ticket increases with each extra number the speedometer ticks past.

We don’t condone speeding here at Briggs Super Center, but we would like to still give you six tips to steer clear of speeding tickets, and recommend that defensive driving is your safest option to prevent a ticket or an accident.

1. Speed Traps

Be aware of your surroundings because cops generally situate their vehicles so they are obstructed from your view. Whether it may be a squad car parked in a parking lot with overhanging trees, or a state trooper positioned behind a barricade, shooting radar or not, they’ll notice if you come blazing by.

2. Speed Limit Changes

These bad boys will sneak up on you the moment you look down to change the radio station or are distracted by the person in the vehicle next to you singing like they’re Beyonce. Pay close attention to “Reduced Speed Ahead” signs and to school zones, these are prime ticket spots.

Some drivers are just naturally slow, really slow. Others have slowed down for a reason and if everyone around you seems to be keeping the limit, chances are a police car is somewhere near by because left laners don’t like to be trouble with riding the limit right on the dot.

4. The Pack

Keeping up with traffic and traveling with a pack isn’t a bad idea as long as they aren’t going an outrageous amount over. Don’t think it hasn’t been done, cops have no problem pulling over multiple vehicles at a time, especially when other officers aren’t far from their position to come and assist.

5. Flying Solo

If you’re the only vehicle on the road, as tempting as it may be, keep an eye on your speed because you’re vehicle is especially obvious to law enforcement.

6. Left Lane Lover

Technically the left lane is for passing, but there are those who don’t think the limit applies to them when they are driving in this lane. If someone is heavily tailgating you, don’t speed up because now you’re front and center to take the hit for cops shooting radar. Turn on your blinker, and when it’s safe, move over to the right lane, let the speed demon whiz by. Also avoid switching between the two lanes frequently, this is will also draw unwanted attention to your vehicle.
