Simple Steps to Keep Your Pet Safe in the Car
It’s hard to leave that sad face at home, pawing at the window, and watching you pull out of the drive. Man’s best friend may love going for a ride, and you might love the company, minus the drool flying out the window on the side of your vehicle, but are you making sure that your furry friend is safe in case of an accident or sudden stop? To be sure, check out these simple steps to keep your pet safe in the car.
If your pet has never been on a car ride, be sure to take a couple of short trips to see how they react. Some animals are frightened by the closed environment, new sights, and sounds and become overstimulated and can become a serious distraction, bouncing all around the vehicle. Others on the other hand get sick, and will have you wishing you bought leather seats to clean up that mess.
Always, always, always keep a leash in your car for your dog in case of they need a bathroom break, you get caught in unexpected traffic, or an accident occurs.
If you on keeping your pet in a carrier or crate, make sure you have familiarized them with the enclosure and have it stored safely within your vehicle. Most SUVs provide plenty of cargo space for large breed animals to be place in back.
No matter the length of travel, make sure to have a portable water dish, and food or treats. (Be careful when feeding them because as we mentioned for, animals can get car sick too.)
Many dogs love to stick their heads out the window but please be cautious of this. Other vehicles or debris could potentially harm your loved one. The wind can also cause inner-ear or lung damage, and passing by dogs or other excitable things could cause your pooch to jump out the window.
If you’re considering a vehicle that not only provides plenty of cargo space, passenger room, and a place for your pets, we would be happy to help you choose the ideal vehicle.
