Tips for Making Sleeping in Your Car More Comfortable

Okay so maybe you’re having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, or maybe you’ve had a little too much fun tonight, whatever the case may be, you’re stuck or stranded in your car and will be forced to spend the night. You thought sleepovers were bad enough fighting over who gets the couch, that or you’re scrunched up in your sleeping bag glowering at the kid who brought an air mattress, but now you have to get comfortable in your car and make due with what you have so here are some tips for making sleeping in your car more comfortable.

1. Don’t

There really isn’t any where else you can sleep? No? Okay well, here we go:

2. Safe Location

Make sure you’re not parked in a public lot where you could be ticketed for loitering, although there are some 24/7 super stores or gyms that provide enough activity that you’re safe and can’t be messed with. Highway rest stops and truck stops are also an option. We never said this was going to be a good night’s sleep.

The longer you spend trying to will yourself to fall the asleep, the more uncomfortable you’re going to become. If you can walk around, remain outside of your vehicle until you’re ready to lay down and drift off, this is going to be your best bet.

4. I can’t…get…comfortable!

If having the sheets tucked in too tight that your feet can’t move drives you crazy, then you’re in for a real treat when trying to figure out HOW to sleep in your car. Reclining the seats is always an option if you have a car with great leg space, or curling up along the back seat. Whether you have a car, or SUV, we would suggest folding down the seat and stretching out in the back seat/trunk space so you don’t wake up entirely stiff and with a cricked. (Okay, this guy looks entirely too comfortable…relaxing in the Dodge Journey definitely wouldn’t be too bad.)

5. You didn’t bring a blanket did you?

Maybe you did come prepared with a blanket and pillow but when the temperature drops at night, depending on where you are, it’s going to get cold quickly. Before you go to sleep, blast the heat, really crank it up. It will stay warm for a while, but more than likely during the coldest parts of the night/early morning, you’ll have to re-start your car and heat it back up again.

Ironically, one of the qualities automakers used to focus on was making a vehicle comfortable for spending the night. If you’re considering a purchasing a vehicle or even test driving one, not sleeping in one, that we have available here at Briggs Super Center we would like to invite you to further explore our inventory.
